Global Drug Facility Evaluation: preliminary discussion
As you know, the GDF, housed at WHO HQ for an initial two year period, is currently undergoing an external evaluation by a team from McKinsey & Company to assess outcomes so far, and determine its future scope and its governance. The McKinsey team is visiting several countries and has also interviewed key stakeholders, including many Board members. The process is being overseen by a Steering Group of Board members and the preliminary report will be presented to the Stop TB Co-ordinating Board at the Board meeting in Brasilia.
At the recent teleconference of the Steering Group, it was proposed to organise a half day working session to review the preliminary report and recommendations from McKinsey, prior to the April Coordinating Board meeting. It was proposed that other members of the Coordinating Board who are available for this meeting, be invited to attend, so as to ensure that the draft report is examined in detail by as many Board members as possible, prior to the meeting in Brasilia. This will be your opportunity to review and comment on the McKinsey report and recommendations before they are presented.
We would therefore like to invite Board members to spend half a day with the McKinsey consultants and the Steering Group on the 26th March 2003 in Geneva. The GDF Secretariat can assist with travel and booking hotels, however, all costs should be borne by your own organisation. Please do let us know if you are able to attend.
Millennium Development Goals Project and 2nd adhoc Committee on TB control
The convening of the Coordinating Board members in Brasilia offers an opportunity to discuss and the ensure synergies between the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Project Taskforce V and the integration of the Taskforce into the Stop TB Partnership.
Specific issues to be addressed during the joint meeting will include, the ongoing development of The Hague Document (a report setting the 5 year mid-term strategic direction for global DOTS expansion, involving the implementation of the Global Plan to Stop TB and beyond). Organized in collaboration with MDGs Project Taskforce V, this session will address: a) the processes involved in ensuring the synergy of activities of these two bodies; and b) the strategic issues for mid-term global DOTS expansion (including the broad health system issues such as human resources, strengthening primary health services, and strengthening political commitment, and the widening of the coalition base necessary to tackle these issues). The final report of the ad hoc committee will be infomed by the outcomes of a series of consultations on these broad health system issues.
