Photo-voice Project gives TB a human face

The Ecuadorian Foundation for Respiratory Health is using the photo-voice methodology to give a human face to tuberculosis. By conducting workshops on the use of photo-voice, the Foundation has been able to collect personal testimonies of how TB affects individuals, their families and communities. ACSM update from NTP Pakistan

The National TB Control Programme in Pakistan is reaching out to young volunteers and parliamentarians to strengthen joint action against TB. The programme has also conducted orientation sessions for NTP staff as well as partners on how to write a success story, bringing the perspective of the cured patient and giving TB control activities a human touch.

Rapid assessment to guide development of ACSM training plan in Viet Nam

PATH has provided technical assistance to Viet Nam to deliver a sound, thorough and cost-efficient training plan for ACSM and PPM that would enable seamless funding disbursements and implementation of training activities. In order to better guide the development of the training plan based on needs, PATH conducted a rapid assessment using group discussion methodology and key informant interviews. Mass media campaign to combat TB stigma in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan Health Communication Association (AHCA) has launched the biggest ever intervention in Azerbaijan attempting to fight stigma and educate the public on TB symptoms and the importance of seeking treatment if TB symptoms occur. The campaign which is being implemented in collaboration with the National TB Control Programme includes two Public Service Announcements broadcast on national and regional channels, as well as an educational video depicting the life story of a TB patient. ACSM for TB Control School in Ukraine

"Stop TB Together" Coalition of Organizations with the assistance of "Increasing the Impact of Civil Society" programme of the International Renaissance Foundation held a two-day school of ACSM in the area of TB control.
The school’s main tasks were: to develop organizational potential and capacity in carrying out ACSM tasks at the state and local levels, to raise awareness and help acquire practical skills of planning and implementing ACSM, to get familiarized with modern international TB control strategies and recommended service provision standards in this area, to share best experience of organizing ACSM activities at the interregional level etc.

Raising TB Awareness in Remote Districts of Nepal

Awaaz Nepal is an NGO working to raise TB awareness in remote districts of Nepal, where people have little knowledge of the disease, its symptoms and how it is cured. The NGO engages in a wide range of ACSM activities to not only promote knowledge about TB but also to promote cooperation between government agencies and local NGOs in TB awareness, education and prevention and to facilitate the engagement of stakeholders from the community with district level medical associations. Vocational training helps TB patients and their families

The Ojha Institute of Chest Disease (Dow University of Health Sciences) in Pakistan has established a vocational training centre aimed at helping TB patients and their family members better cope with the loss of income many experience from being ill. The training centre will provide skills for candle making, making traditional caps and block printing of cloth and personal grooming courses. These hand-made products will be sold and enable affected families to generate their own sources of income, even while a patient is getting treated for TB.

Edu clowns use street theatre to raise awareness in Tamil Nadu

The Edu-Clowns is an innovative theatre group that entertains a community audience through street theatre performance using elements of clowning, folk dance and songs to address the seriousness of TB. They perform in locations and during periods of large gatherings, such as during village religious festivals. Such form of entertainment-education has proved effective in driving more people within communities to health centres to get diagnosed for TB.
