Rehabilitation programs for MDRTB patients in Iran

The Massih Daneshvari Hospital in collaboration with the Iranian Stop TB Committee has organized various rehabilitation programs for MDR TB Patients who were hospitalized for a long period in this hospital. TB Patients Empowerment in Pakistan

The National TB Control Program in Pakistan has designed a Patient Empowerment Program with the objective to establish TB Patients' Groups in four provinces. To start, on 1 July 2010, 10 TB patients (men and women, cured and under treatment) from the Punjab province participated in a one day orientation meeting at Provincial TB Control Programme Lahore to understand and manage TB in a better way. Among other achievements, the group recognized the importance of the Patient Charter and outlined the next steps for its implementation. For more information, click here [.pdf].
Stop TB Partnership Pakistan engages the media as formal partner in fight against TB

Recognizing the important role the media plays in disseminating key TB messages and in influencing policy-makers, the national stop TB partnership in Pakistan has forged an strategic alliance with the country's key media agencies.
The Partnership signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TV channels, a medical journal and a media production and event management company and has laid out each partners' roles in a plan of action. For more information, click here [.pdf].
Nuestra Casa (Our House) exhibit brings on-the-ground reality to global arena

Nuestra Casa (Our House in Spanish) is a three-dimensional house built as a movable exhibition to reflects the life and stories of people affected by TB living in the US-Mexican border. The exhibition replicates their dwelling and surroundings and conveys their messages of reality and hope. The exhibition was created by Damien Schumann, famous for "The Shack" - which was a replica of a typical low-income South African dwelling made to raise awareness of TB/HIV.
The project, supported by Project Concern International (PCI) and the US-Mexico Border Health Association, with collaboration from the Mexico National TB Programme was recently exhibited at the World Union Conference on Lung Health in Cancun.

A new TB brand and national partnership in Pakistan

Folk play to increase TB awareness in Bihar, India

ADRA-India in collaboration with national and district authorities organized a series of folk media shows to raise TB awareness in hard-to-reach areas with low case detection and high defaulter rates. The folk plays were effective entertainment education aimed at giving information on how TB is spread, the importance of completing treatment and the right and responsibility of TB patients.

ACSM at Union Conference, Europe Region

Advocacy, communication and social mobilization (ACSM) for TB control was featured at the 5th Congress of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, Europe Region, at a Symposium organized by PATH. Entitled "Overcoming barriers to TB control in the European region: the role of ACSM", the Symposium aimed at exploring some of the challenges and innovative ACSM solutions that countries and organizations in Europe have developed to improve TB programme performance.
Presentations made during the Symposium addressed some of the important non-technical challenges to TB control in the Region as well as how ACSM interventions can contribute to overcoming TB control barriers. Discussions were held about stigma and discrimination in the health-care system and community and effective ways to combat it.

With support from USAID and PATH, the National Tuberculosis Control Programme in Cambodia launched a series of ACSM workshops in May, with more planned in June and July. High-level meeting with Ministry of Health and Professional Organizations

The National Tuberculosis Control Programme in Cambodia held a high-level meeting on TB Public-Private Mix (PPM) DOTS entitled "Involving Professional Organizations in TB Control" on 11 May. Objectives of the meeting included exploring opportunities for coordination, collaboration, and synergies among partners and to define a role the Cambodia Medical Association and the Cambodia Medical Chamber can play in TB PPM.
