The National Stop TB Partnership in Canada
Halte à la Tuberculose - Stop TB Canada (STBC): Following a meeting held in Edmonton, Alberta in February 2001 entitled "What can Canada do to combat tuberculosis around the world?" Stop TB - Halte à la Tuberculose Canada was established. Canada has an overall low burden of domestic TB. However, Canada has committed to help reach the G-8 goal of reducing TB by 50% by 2010. The Canadian government has shown past commitment and leadership in global TB control. There is also an active TB basic science and operational research community in Canada. Stop TB Canada has the opportunity to coordinate these efforts in the realm of tuberculosis, raising awareness about the general threat that TB poses to the global health situation and lobbying the Parliament to put TB at the forefront of the national-agenda.
