| Comments: | WHO/EMRO staff (Mr W. Khan) and consultant (Mr F. Khan) visited Afghanistan from 10 to 20 April 2009 to assist scaling up of ACSM activities supported by by R4 and R8 grants (R4 started from 10 Sept 05, phase 2 from 1 Sept 07 and finished in April 09, and also R8 that started from 1 April 09). Mr W. Khan and Mr F. Khan reviewed the ACSM activities supported R4 including development of communication materials and also advocacy documents including photo books. Based on the review and consultations, they assisted the national TB programme and partners in finalizing a national ACSM strategy and workplan that has been incorporated in the R8 grant. At the same time, it was realized that the national capacity for ACSM implementation is rather weak particularly in its M/E component. Therefore WHO/EMRO will provide additional TA to train national ACSM experts on ACSM-M/E guidelines through TBTEAM (new EMRO/ACSM OGAG support).
