Comments:WHO/EMRO sent staff members (Drs Baghdadi & Bassili) to Egypt from 1 to 5 March 09 to assess TB care in particular M/E component supported by R6 (started from 01 Sept 07). This was a part of the in-depth review of TB control in Egypt, which was jointly conducted by MOHP, WHO/HQ & EMRO. The review was also one of R6 supported M/E activities. They visited different sites (Gharbeya and Alexandria) and Cairo, and reviewed TB care & M/E extensively. R6 grant has five objectives (MDR-TB, prisoners & refugees; Poor urban populations; ACSM; HSS, and; OR). M/E is critical for each one of the objectives: moreover, HSS includes the electronic nominal registration system (ENRS). Drs Baghdadi & Bassili provided comprehensive recommendations on M/E, as part of the recommendations by the in-depth review, that include strengthening of data analysis capacity at all levels and introduction of the WHO recommended revised recording and reporting forms in non-NTP sectors like health insurance, universities and prisons. The recommendations are incorporated in the R6 phase II workplan that is expected to start soon.
