| Comments: | WHO/EMRO staff (Drs Mahjour and Seita) visited Morocco from 13 to 21 December 2008 to review TB care activities in particular its M/E component supported by GF R6 grant (started from 1 July 2007). R6 grant has two objectives: MDR-TB & HIV, and social support (ACSM). The visit a part of TB review of Morocco which was attended by a staff of WHO/HQ (Drs Blanc & Ottmani) and a consultant (Dr Jacquet) and also by GFATM (Ms Roussellee). TB review was actually conducted because the grant performance in the previous quarters was unsatisfactory: C in Q3-4 of 2007 & B2 in Q1-2 2008). Drs Mahjour and Seita visited different places as part of the review, and extensively review TB care with special emphasis on M/E. The review found that the basic of TB care (i.e. diagnosis & treatment) was sound in Morocco; however there were critical gaps in M/E (e.g. limited supervision, no intermediate-level TB coordinators) and also uncoordinated MDR-TB care. Drs Mahjour and Seita, again as part of TB review, discussed the matter extensively with the Minister and GFATM. It was in principle agreed that MOH would take possible actions & GFATM would explore possible reprogramming of R6 grant to address such gaps.
