| Comments: | WHO/EMRO staff (Dr Seita) visited Kabul from 14 to 22 November 2008 to assist the national TB programme and partners in improving quality of DOTS and expanding DOTS services in Afghanistan through GF R4 grant (started from 01 Sept 05, and phase 2 from 01 Sept 07). The discussion was particularly focused on the continued expansion of DOTS through BPHS / EPHS which are the basis of health systems in Afghanistan. In this regard, discussions also extended to the possible mechanisms on HSS approach in TB care. The visit contributed to the expansion of DOTS in Afghanistan as the country reached to 64% case detection rate in 2007 cohort under extreme fragile status (WHO Global TB Report 2009), and R4 was completed by April 2009.
