| Terms of Reference: | The PAL workshop was carried out on 13 to 17 June 2010 in Annaba, Algeria.
The workshop was financially supported by TBCAP and co-organized by WHO/STB, WHO/AFRO and the Union and was attended by representatives from 11 Francophone African countries. The workshop included eight sessions covering the following topics: i) the concept of PAL and the stepwise process to develop and implement PAL in country, ii) the management of communicable respiratory conditions, including TB, iii) the management of chronic respiratory diseases, with a focus on asthma and COPD, iv) the logistic resources needed to implement PAL (medicines and equipment), v) the information system and indicators to monitor and evaluate PAL activities, vi) the development of PAL guideline, vii) the development of PAL training material and viii) the planning process to implement PAL in country. In each session, one or more topic were presented and discussed, then followed by simulation exercises in work groups using fictive situations. On the last day, the representatives of each country developed, presented and discussed their plan to implement or expand PAL in their country.
