| Terms of Reference: | It is foreseen that the WHO will organize a drug resistance survey in Turkmenistan, but before this can be actualized, several aspects in TB control should be checked.
As sputum samples will be collected on basis of microscopy at peripheral and regional level, the performance of the microscopy ‘in the field’ is of great importance. For a pilot project, the Balkanabad Velyat is selected, and an audit is planned in a district laboratories in Serdar city Bereket. In addition, the regional laboratory in Balkanabad, responsible for the QC in the two formerly mentioned peripheral setting, will also be involved.
The samples will be sent to the central laboratory in Ashgabat for culture and DST and it needs to be established how the reference laboratory in the new setting functions.
To investigate these issues, it was planned that Dr. Dadu and this WHO consultant would visit the central lab in Ashgabat and the mentioned peripheral sites together. During the field mission, Tatyana Bobkova (USAID) and Dr. Aynabat Seyitmedova (Director TB centre in Ashgabat) would join in.
