| Title: | WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement Workshop: TB Prevalence Surveys - How to design, plan and carry them out |
| Type: | Workshop / Atelier (open - ouvert) |
| Terms of Reference: | Number of seats: Maximum 25, on a first-come first-served basis. There will be a maximum of 5 participants per country.
The Prevalence Survey team of the WHO TB Monitoring and Evaluation unit is pleased to announce that we will organize a workshop on "TB prevalence surveys - how to design, plan and carry them out" in Berlin on 12 November 2010.
Why is this seminar being held? It has become clear that a TB prevalence survey can provide useful information on the burden of TB, trends in disease burden and the impact of TB control, and the reasons why cases are missed by national TB programmes. Findings can be used to improve the quality and coverage of TB care. Many countries are interested in conducting such surveys. However, experience in several countries has showed that limited recent experience and expertise with conducting such surveys can be a major obstacle to survey implementation.
What will the workshop include? This one-day seminar will explain best practices in the design, planning, and implementation of a TB prevalence survey. The pros and cons of a survey and common bottlenecks to survey implementation - and solutions to overcome them - will be discussed. Recent experience with surveys will be presented by leaders of national surveys; and the major content of the newly-revised 2nd edition of the popular handbook on disease prevalence surveys will be introduced.
Who should attend? We strongly encourage survey coordinators and/or survey investigators from countries in which a national TB prevalence survey is planned to attend this seminar. Participation in this seminar will be a requirement for requesting subsequent consultations about prevalence surveys with TME staff during the remainder of the UNION conference from 13–15 November. Technical advisors/consultants and post graduate students who are interested in TB prevalence surveys are also welcomed. As the seminar will not take place in the official conference venue, registration for the Union conference is not necessary to participate in the workshop.
Who should I contact for more information? The seminar is being coordinated by Dr Ikushi Onozaki, WHO.
Number of seats: Maximum 25, on a first-come first-served basis. There will be a maximum of 5 participants per country.
