| Terms of Reference: | The overall objective of the consultation is to develop a clear plan to enhance the capacity of national TB reference laboratories in the Region
The specific objectives are to:
(1) Review the status and identify the inputs required for expanding the scope of laboratory services in Member Countries
(2) Provide guidance on the components for laboratory strengthening to be included in national TB control plans, including for the introduction of newer diagnostics
(3) Develop plans to meet the required scale-up laboratory capacity in the Region including technical assistance, and strengthened capacity of supra-national reference laboratories to technically support Member countries in the Region.
The outcomes expected from this informal consultation are:
(1) an assessment of the current situation and inputs required for expanding TB laboratory capacity in the SEA Region
(2) Identification of mechanisms to address the gaps and requirements for strengthening national reference laboratories in Member Countries
(3) Supporting designated supra-national reference TB laboratories in the Region;
(4) scope and feasibility of introducing newer diagnostic tools within the national TB control programmes in the next 2-5 years,
(5) Regional plan for strengthening TB laboratory services including meeting the technical assistance requirements.
The overall objective of visiting LRS and IRL Kerala TB laboratories was to assess their lab renovation status and readiness (BSL 3 and molecular biology laboratories) to absorb new diagnostic technologies under EXPAND-TB project |
