| Terms of Reference: | The World Health Organization Stop TB Department is seeking to expand its pool of consultants for collaboration in tuberculosis (TB) surveillance activities, and is organizing a training for future consultants.
A four day training will be held 24-27 May 2011 at which participants will: • Be familiarized with TB and multi-drug resistant TB surveillance and monitoring indicators and WHO methods for calculation of estimates of TB incidence, prevalence and mortality. • Acquire the necessary skills to support and advise on the planning, design, implementation, monitoring and analysis of surveys of disease prevalence and surveys of drug resistance.
Ideal candidates to participate in the training will match the following profile: • Education and practical experience in epidemiology, with strong quantitative and data analysis skills. Experience in the field of TB considered an asset. • Working knowledge of a mainstream statistical package (R, Stata, SAS,…) highly desirable. • International work experience. • Strong inter-personal skills. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Solid working knowledge of English. Fluency in additional language(s) considered an asset. • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. • Availability to travel on assignment for at least 4 weeks per year, with remuneration in accordance with WHO policies.
As an expected result of the training, participants will be placed on a list of consultants to provide technical support to countries on TB surveillance activities, including: • Co-facilitation of regional and country trainings on TB surveillance and monitoring. • Provision of technical assistance to national TB control programmes in the planning, design, implementation and monitoring of prevalence and/or drug resistance surveys, including via country missions. • Analysis of TB surveillance data.
