A consultant to develop briefing paper on the impact of and response to TB and HIV-related TB in pregnant women and mothers – linking the “3 I’s” and PMTCT responses.
UNICEF, WHO and UNAIDS
1. Background briefing paper (15-20 pages) and accompanying powerpoint presentation on TB in pregnant women for the meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission in April 2011. The briefing paper will contain the following:
· Review of the burden of tuberculosis and HIV/related TB among pregnant women, neonates and infants.
· Global policy/guideline review on TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment for pregnant women – identifying gaps, or questions to be answered. Site existing reviews (USG, Union, etc.)
· Review published and grey literature and summarize examples of good practice in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of TB in pregnant women, neonates and infants
· Draft proposed policy/guidance recommendations based on findings of review, incorporating existing global policy/guidance on TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
2. Draft outline of “how to” implement policy/guidance recommendations – demonstrating the integration of the 3 I’s and PMTCT programming – based on the findings of the background briefing paper. Recommend a few high TB/HIV burden countries where the recommendations could be rolled-out. (If the findings demonstrate feasibility).
