| Terms of Reference: | This workshop was organised by the National Nurses Association of Kenya in collaboration with ICN. 32 nurses were selected to be trained in all aspects of TB and MDR-TB with particular emphasis on practice development and people-centred care. On completion of this course, these nurses are encouraged to address their key challenges in practice by advocating for change and training colleagues on the relevant topics. |

| Comments: | Course participants have received ongoing support and monitoring by the National Nurses Association of Kenya. Activities are reported back to ICN within one year of the course taking place.
Nurses present at this training identified the following as challenges to effective delivery of TB prevention and control programs in their jurisdiction: Staff shortages, high default rates, increasingly complex patients, poor infection control, MDR TB drug shortages, contrasting opinion and treatment from traditional healers, insufficient resources including lab supplies and personal protective equipment, delays in obtaining culture results, and staff attitudes including stigma and fear of illness.
The course evaluation was very positive and each participant prepared a training plan to meet and address specific needs, barriers and epidemiological issues relevant to their practice and place of work.
