| Terms of Reference: | This workshop was organised by the Persatuan Parawat Nasional Indonesia in collaboration with ICN. 30 nurses were selected to be trained in all aspects of TB and MDR-TB with particular emphasis on practice development and people-centred care. On completion of this course, these nurses are encouraged to address their key challenges in practice by advocating for change and training colleagues on the relevant topics.

| Comments: | Course participants have received ongoing support and monitoring by the Persatuan Parawat Nasional Indonesia. Activities are reported back to ICN within one year of the course taking place.
Nurses present at this training identified the following as challenges to effective delivery of TB prevention and control programs in their jurisdiction: Staff shortages, lack of recognition of nursing staff, lack of advancement and support of nursing, increased caseload, fear of illness, nursing role in TB not well defined, staff non-adherence with TB guidelines, lack of political will, lack of funding, drug shortages or stock outs, physical and geographic barriers for patients, need for additional psychosocial patient support and counseling.
The course evaluation was very positive and each participant prepared a training plan to meet and address specific needs, barriers and epidemiological issues relevant to their practice and place of work. |
