Comments:Course participants have received ongoing support and monitoring by the Uganda Nurses & Midwives Union. Activities are reported back to ICN within one year of the course taking place.
Nurses present at this training identified the following as challenges to effective delivery of TB prevention and control programs in their jurisdiction: Staff shortages, increased caseload, increased financial and political investment in other diseases (eg. HIV) diverting necessary funds and effort away from TB, lack of funding, lack of political will, poor infection control, drug shortages or stock outs, insufficient access to diagnostic tools, and inadequate nutritional support for TB/MDR TB patients in hospital.
The course evaluation was very positive and each participant prepared a training plan to meet and address specific needs, barriers and epidemiological issues relevant to their practice and place of work.
