| Terms of Reference: | This workshop was organised by the Philippine Nurses Association in collaboration with ICN.
27 nurses were selected to be trained in all aspects of TB and MDR-TB with particular emphasis on practice development and people-centred care. On completion of this course, these nurses are encouraged to address their key challenges in practice by advocating for change and training colleagues on the relevant topics.

| Comments: | Course participants have received ongoing support and monitoring by the Philippine Nurses Association. Activities are reported back to ICN within one year of the course taking place.
Nurses present at this training identified the following as challenges to effective delivery of TB prevention and control programs in their jurisdiction: Staff shortages, increased caseload, staffing with nurses who lack knowledge and experience in TB, staff attitudes, nurses lacking experience delivering training and education sessions, challenges with team coordination, poor program follow up of non-adherent patients, lack of integration of TB in HIV programs, lack of funding, insufficient resources, patients lost to follow up when moved or transferred to another jurisdiction, need for additional support and counselling for patients, medication side effects and inadequate patient access to proper nutrition.
The course evaluation was very positive and each participant prepared a training plan to meet and address specific needs, barriers and epidemiological issues relevant to their practice and place of work.
