Title:WHO Training for Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Consultants
Type:Conference (invitation only - avec invitation)
Terms of Reference:The World Health Organization Stop TB Department is seeking to expand its pool of consultants for
collaboration in programmatic management of drug-resistant tuberculosis (PMDT) activities, and is
organizing a training for future consultants.
A five day training will be held 7-11 November 2011 at which participants will:
• Be familiarized with current situation of drug resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) and WHO recommendations
on programmatic management of DR-TB.
• Acquire the necessary skills to support and advise on the planning, design, implementation, monitoring
of programmatic management of drug resistant tuberculosis.
Ideal candidates to participate in the training will match the following profile:
• Post-graduate degree in Medicine or masters degree in a relevant area.
• At least five (5) years in supporting countries in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the
programmatic management of TB with some knowledge of DR-TB OR at least two years experience in
working/assisting DR-TB control programme
• Knowledge of high burden, resource constrained countries and organization of national TB programmes
based on practical experience.
• International work experience.
• Strong inter-personal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Solid working knowledge of English. Fluency in additional language(s) considered an asset.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Availability to travel on assignment for at least 4 weeks per year, with remuneration in accordance with
WHO policies.
As an expected result of the training, participants will be placed on a list of consultants to
provide technical support to countries on programmatic management of drug resistant
tuberculosis activities via country missions on the following areas:
• Need assessment for DR-TB management in a country/program/project
• Preparation of PMDT plan with budget
• Advise on identifying priority group based on current data, treatment regimen, second line drug
needs, programme management- DOTS, community participation, social enablers, recording and
reporting procedures, basic infection control strategy, cohort analysis and critically appraise data
• Monitor the ongoing programme
The planned training will be held in Maseru, Lesotho on 7-11 November 2011.

Candidates will be selected to take part on the basis of their CV and letter of interest. Their transport
to/from Lesotho and a daily per diem will be covered by WHO.
