| Title: | Call for bids to perform two systematic reviews |
| Type: | Mission |
| Terms of Reference: | The WHO Stop TB Department organized a scoping meeting for the development of guidelines on screening for active TB, in Geneva 31 March and 1 June. In follow-up, we are requesting bids to complete two systematic reviews (see table in section 5.4. of the draft report- http://www.who.int/tb/TBscreeningmeetingreport2011.pdf , as well as the detailed questions formulated according to the PICOT format in section 5.5.):
Systematic review 1, on general benefits of TB screening: Objective: To conduct a systematic review of the literature, while assessing the evidence using the GRADE approach, to answer the following questions: •Does TB screening increase TB case detection? •Does TB screening reduce delay from onset of disease to initiation of TB treatment? •Does TB screening improve TB treatment outcomes for those diagnosed with TB? •Does TB screening have economic and social consequences for the person with disease and his/her family? •Does TB screening affect TB epidemiology in the community Systematic review 2, on choice of screening tools/algorithms Objective: To conduct a systematic review of the literature, while assessing the evidence using the GRADE approach, to answer the following questions, for each relevant screening test/algorithm: •What is the sensitivity and specificity of the TB screening test/algorithm? •What is the required time from application of the screening test/algorithm to availability of test results? •What is the cost of the screening test/algorithm? •What are the health systems requirements for screening test/algorithm? •What is the acceptability of the screening test/algorithm for persons screened and for health care providers respectively?
The bid (for one or both of the reviews) should include, in no more than 5 pages, the specific objectives, proposed methods, proposed manpower, time line and budget. The expected output is a technical report to be submitted to WHO latest 30 May 2012.
Please send comments and bids to Knut Lönnroth (lonnrothk@who.int), with copy to Monica Dias (diasm@who.int), no later than 6 August 2011.
