Comments:Dr Narayan Pendse. consultant/TB Impact Measurement Task Force and Dr T Sado, a field team leader of Ethiopia Survey team, completed the mission.
The technical assistance (TA) by the WHO Task Force on TB impact measurement has been carried out in collaboration with partners such as US-CDC, RIT Tokyo and KNCV. The plan of TA is also discussed with the GF in Geneva.
Monitoring and Evaluation is an essential component of the GF funded program in each country (allocation of 5-15% of the budget is recommended). TB prevalence is one of MDG indicators and prevalence is directly measureable by a scientific study. However, quality technical assistance is essential since most countries except a few in Asia have not experienced such a survey at all or since 1960.
This TA facilitated not only the pilot survey operation but also appropriate use of new technology such as digital CXR.
