| Terms of Reference: | The National TB Centre (NTC) of the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR is seeking technical assistance from an experienced microbiologist for the period:
1 July 2012 to 30 September 2016
Duties
• To manage the National TB Reference Laboratory as per International standards and WHO recommendations
• To scale up quality assured TB culture and drug susceptibility testing (DST) in addition to AFB smear microscopy at the National TB Reference Laboratory (BSL-3)
• To develop and update relevant standard operating procedures (SOP)
• To ensure training and supervise the laboratory technicians in all laboratories and especially in NRL to increase skills and capacity of working in BSL3 environment.
• To coordinate with partner laboratories and Supra National Reference Laboratory (SRL)
Qualifications
• University degree or equivalent background, in medical or microbiological sciences.
• 5 years or more experience in culture, identification and DST of M. tuberculosis and familiar with mechanical and operational details and maintenance of a biosafety level-3 laboratory.
• Experience in team management as well as training and supervision
• Experience in conducting extended, participatory field research
• Good writing and communication skills in English, working knowledge of Lao language an asset.
