| Terms of Reference: | The WHO Stop TB Department organized a scoping meeting for the development of guidelines on screening for active TB, in Geneva 31 March and 1 June 2011. The draft meeting report can be found on: http://www.who.int/tb/guidlinesscreeningtb/en/
Subsequently, WHO called for bids to conduct two systematic reviews, which would underpin the development of TB screening guidelines. Both reviews were commissioned, but only one has been completed due to unforeseen circumstances. We are now renewing the call for bids on the 2nd systematic review, which is on sensitivity and specificity of different screening tools and algorithms
The expected product is a systematic review of the literature (assessing the evidence using the GRADE approach), to answer the following questions:
1.What is the sensitivity and specificity of symptom screening for active TB?
2.What is the sensitivity and specificity of chest X-ray screening for active TB?
3.What is the sensitivity and specificity of combined symptom and chest X-ray screening for active TB?
4.What is the yield of true positive, false positive, true negative and false negative TB cases using above screening options, in combination with different diagnostic tools (including sputum smear microscopy, Gene Xpert MTB Rif and culture) with different TB prevalence in the screened population?
The bid should include, in no more than 5 pages, the proposed methods, manpower, time line and budget. The expected output is a technical report to be submitted to WHO latest 30 September 2012.
