| Terms of Reference: | 1) To meet with collaborators at the South African Medical Research Council, CDC GAP South Africa, and the Republic of South Africa National Department of Health (NDoH) to discuss ongoing and planned operational research studies on Tuberculosis (TB) in South Africa. To help with piloting data collection instruments for studies that are ready for implementation, and help with analysis, writing, and dissemination of results of studies that have completed data collection/fieldwork. These studies include: 1) Validation of Laboratory Sputa Data in KwaZulu-Natal (completed data collection); 2) Evaluating New Approaches for Detecting Local Heterogeneity in the Burden of Drug Resistant TB (DR TB) (preparing for implementation); and 3) Contact Investigation of TB and Multidrug-Resistant TB (MDR TB) Patients (details for implementation in discussion).
2) To disseminate findings of a National, systematic evaluation of the TB Surveillance and Electronic Tuberculosis Registry to key stakeholders at the Ministry of Health and at the National Department of Health Quarterly TB/HIV meeting for TB managers and collaborators.
3) To conduct an interactive workshop on Scientific Writing to scientists at the South African Medical Research Council.
4) To meet with leadership at the TB Unit of South African Medical Research Council in Durban to address budgetary and hiring issues, and future collaboration.
