Title:TUBERCULOSIS DRUG MANAGEMENT TRAINING COURSE FOR CONSULTANTS IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC REGION

Terms of Reference:Ensuring effective drug supply and management is one of the pillars of the Stop TB Strategy. The Global Drug Facility (GDF) plays an important role in global TB drug management through a unique package of services that includes pooled procurement of high-quality TB drugs at lower cost, monitoring of management and technical assistance in TB drug management. Regular drug management monitoring missions to countries are instrumental in improving drug management capacity at the country level.
The Western Pacific Regional Office of World Health Organization Stop TB Unit, seeking to expand its pool of tuberculosis drug management consultants, will organize a training course for future consultants.

Date and Venue:
A five-day training course will be held from 11 to 15 March 2013 in Manila, Philippines.

Objectives of the training:
- to develop a pool of trained regional drug management consultants in the Western Pacific Region, meeting current global criteria as defined by the TB Technical Assistance Mechanism (TBTEAM);
- to equip participants with the technical expertise and practical skills required to establish mechanisms for procurement, uninterrupted supply and management of quality-assured first and second-line anti-TB drugs; and

- to equip participants with problem-solving and diplomacy skills to ensure good working relationships and to collaborate with clients at all levels, including ministries.
Qualification:
Ideal candidates to participate in the training should match the following profile:
• Involvement in TB control programmes and /or pharmaceutical supply management;
• Residence in the Western Pacific Region;
• Knowledgeable of high burden, resource constrained countries and organization of national TB programmes based on practical experience;
• Strong inter-personal skills;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Solid working knowledge of English;
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team; and
• Availability to travel on assignment for at least 4 weeks per year, with remuneration in accordance with WHO policies.

Expected result of the training: Participants will be placed on a list of consultants to provide technical support to countries via country missions.

Application process:
Participants of the training course will be selected on the basis of their CV and letter of interest.
WHO will cover the cost of participation of the selected candidates.
