| Terms of Reference: | The WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement in 2007 identified 21 countries in which at least one TB prevalence survey is recommended before 2015.
The Nigerian TB Prevalence Survey has been launched nationwide in February 2012. The purpose of the survey is to establish the burden of tuberculosis disease, to estimate the proportion of cases detected and treated by the National Tuberculosis Program and to identify causes of low case detection.
By the first week of October, the survey has covered all sampled States and cluster operations were completed at all but three clusters in North West zone. The cluster operations in North West zone will be completed in two weeks.
The objectives of the mission to Nigeria were to monitor the Survey data collection on Central level and provide technical assistance to the Survey data management unit on data validation and cleaning.
The objectives of the mission to Geneva included reporting on previous mission to Malawi in August; discussing the forthcoming trip to Nigeria; discussing the development of data management guidelines and the generic software for TB Prevalence Surveys; finalizing development of generic software for Drug-Resistance Survey and discussing technical assistance to further DRSs.
