TB Infection Control is a cornerstone of global TB control efforts. However, there is limited data on the feasibility, effectiveness and costs of the implementation and scale-up of recommended TB IC measures in resource-limited settings.
Outcomes and Accomplishments
CDC’s Southeast Asia Regional TB Office has received funds to conduct a public health evaluation (PHE) of the implementation of TB IC activities in hospitals in Vietnam and Thailand. The key accomplishments during this trip were:
? met with study team members from Thailand and Vietnam to discuss and develop operational plans and procedures for the study;
? visited two confirmed (Thailand) and two potential (Vietnam) study sites to: pilot test data collection instruments and tools, determine work patterns and patient flows, and identify potential data sources for study variables (including HIT infrastructure);
? met with key stakeholders at the national and facility level to discuss aspects of the planned evaluation;
? identified and detailed major activities and specific tasks to be completed for each phase of the project;
? compiled statistics from hospitals in Thailand to inform selection of study participants;
? interviewed candidates for study coordinator position;
? discussed sample size requirements with statistician given the composition (bed and staff size) of participating hospitals;
? reviewed PHE committee’s comments on study protocol and developed responses.
