| Terms of Reference: | Investigators and project officers at DTBE/CDC-Atlanta, AURUM Health, and MRC-Durban met to discuss the study entitled, “Contact investigation in the household of patients with TB and MDR TB in a setting with a high HIV burden: operational research to evaluate the yield for new cases of active TB and strategies for preventing further transmission.” Currently the funding to support the study is at MRC within a CDC/DTBE-MRC Cooperative Agreement, but the funds must be utilized/spent or transferred from MRC prior to 30 June 2013. The 3-year study is to be implemented by AURUM Health (in NW province) and by MRC-Durban (in KZN province); however a mechanism to provide adequate funding to carry out the study in its entirety has presented a challenge, as generally the MRC could subcontract to AURUM and provide funds over the study period in installments as milestones are reached. The discussion aimed to find a solution that would allow AURUM to receive the total funds prior to 30 June 2013, when the funding will no longer be available. Several options were discussed and recorded; Thuli planned to take the options to the MRC legal department for consideration later in the week. Further, MRC-Durban believed they could recruit patients through 30 June 2013 with funding available in the CoAg, and could do the necessary 2 year follow-up of patients using other resources (or via a new CoAg if available). |
