Second IFMSA Annual International Papers' Competition on TB…
Another Successful Story!

20 July 2004

On behalf of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), it is our great pleasure to raise to your attention the “Second IFMSA Annual International Papers' Competition on TB”, which turned into another great success.

Indeed, applicants from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas shared with us their wonderful papers.

In comparison with the “First IFMSA Annual International Papers’ Competition on TB”, this year, we noticed more applicants from both developing and western countries. This reflects an increasing awareness among medical students regarding the magnitude of TB-problems in their home-countries, but also elsewhere, which is one of the main objectives of “IFMSA Anti TB Campaign”.

The International Union Against TB And Lung Diseases (The Union) nominated the best three papers.

The first winning paper “Tuberculosis in Indonesia Internally Displace People: A neglected Dimension of Indonesia Epidemic Tuberculosis” by Mr. Normansyah Pan (from the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia) brought Mr. Pan a prize of the free travel-arrangement to the 53rd IFMSA August Meeting, scheduled to take place in Ohrid, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, August 3rd – 9th, 2004.

The second best paper was authored by: Mr. Kushal Shrestha, from Nepal, (“HIV/AIDS and TB Co-Infection”) and the third by Mr. Mohamed Zayed, from the US, (“DOTS in USA”).
