AP & Reuters Daybook for Stop TB - 23/10/2001

AP: 11 a.m. TUBERCULOSIS International financier George Soros joins the World Bank's Jo Ritzen and the World Health Organization's Gro Harlem Brundtland at a press conference to launch a new plan to stop the global spread of TB, an ancient disease taking two million lives last year and growing rapidly in Africa and Asia because of TB's link with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Reuters: 11 a.m. (HEALTH/TUBERCULOSIS/SOROS ) NEWS CONFERENCE - The World Bank holds a news conference to discuss a new plan aimed at stopping the global spread of tuberculosis. According to the World Bank Afghanistan and Pakistan are two of the worst affected countries. World Health Organization Director-General Gro Harlem Brundtland, World Bank Vice President Jo Ritzen and international financier George Soros, participate.
