Rio de Janeiro is the tourist capital of Brazil, renowned for Sugar Loaf Mountain, the statue of Christ the Redeemer and the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana. Rio is also a leading business and conference centre, with a long tradition of hosting major international events. The city offers an excellent transportation network. The trip from the Tom Jobim International Airport (GIG) to the city centre takes just 20 minutes.

The Brazilian Federal Government and local authorities have committed to fostering the success of the Third Partners' Forum.

They view the Forum as an opportunity to strengthen the global fight against TB and heighten awareness about the need to confront the disease throughout Latin America, including Brazil and its capital.

Rio has the highest TB burden in a country which itself ranks 15th for TB burden in the world. TB incidence in some "favelas" in Rio is comparable to that of the countries with the world’s highest TB burden.

Rio was chosen as host city for the Third Stop TB Partners' Forum after a competitive bidding process.
