Dateline: HONG KONG, March 25

Hong Kong Deputy Director of Health Lam Ping-yan appealed for continued collaborative
effort in the global fight against tuberculosis, according to media reports recently.
Speaking at the ceremony of the "World TB Day," Lam expressed hope that members of the public will be alerted to this very important public health problem. Lam said that in Hong Kong the number of notified cases of TB remained static, at over 7,000 annually, representing a rate of around 110 per 100,000 people.
Currently, Hong Kong is classified under "places with intermediate TB burden with good health infrastructure" by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Western Pacific Region. The same classification was also extended to countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Lam stressed that to prevent TB, members of the public should build up body resistance. "The most important thing is to maintain a good body defense, have adequate rest and exercise, breathe more fresh air and have a balanced diet."
