The World TB Day Celebrations in Romania

The events for the celebration of World TB Day 2003 in Romania were organized by the National TB Control Program/ Central Unit – Institute "Marius Nasta", Bucharest in collaboration with the TB County Managers from the country and the Public Health Department from Ministry of Health and Family and the Office for TB Control in the Balkans - World Health Organization.

The following activities were organized:

-24.03 - Press conference followed by a debate on TB Control in Romania with participation of high level stakeholders -the Minister of Health and Family, Director of Public Health Department, the NTP manager, the WHO TB Medical Officer, county managers for TB Control, heads of representative agencies for TB Control in Romania.

- 24.03 – 31.03 - TV and radio talk shows on TB Control in Romania, importance of treatment for the TB patients .

- 24.03 – 31.03 - Distribution of materials for TB day - all TB patients hospitalized or under continuation phase of treatment (including all prisoners with TB) will participate in small health education conferences to be held in the week 24 - 31st March in the TB inpatient and outpatient clinics all around Romania and will receive brochures and T-shirts special developed for these activities.

-17.03 – 24.03 - National Contest on "The best slogan from a TB patient to a TB patient". All 48 counties (including Bucharest) plus the Prison Hospitals are enrolled in this contest. The best slogan /unit will receive a prize and the winner will make also a statement to be video taped. The best slogan in country will be selected during the week 24-31^st March.

All the slogans and statements will be used for a video tape and a booklet to be developed later on.
