Grants for Anti-TB Drugs
The Global Drug Facility (GDF) grant service is a mechanism whereby adult and paediatric first-line anti-TB drugs are granted to approved countries and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to support DOTS expansion and sustainability of nationwide coverage in countries that don't have sufficient finances for their drug needs and who lack adequate procurement capacity, including a robust quality assurance system.
GDF grants run in three-year cycles and are subject to the satisfactory compliance with GDF terms and conditions of support and to the availability of resources available to National TB Control Programmes. Calls for applications for grants are made in accordance with the availability of funding.
GDF also offers emergency grants of one year to prevent stockouts due to events such as natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

How are Applications Reviewed?
The GDF's Technical Review Committee (TRC) is responsible for reviewing applications to GDF for grants of free anti-TB drugs. The TRC recommends (to the Stop TB Partnership Coordinating Board) which grant applications to accept and the level and nature of the grant to provide, as well as advising applicants on the necessary steps for programmes to meet the conditions for GDF support. The TRC also informs WHO of any technical aspects of the programme that require assistance.
The TRC is comprised of 12-15 members nominated by GDF's key stakeholders (including countries, donors and technical agencies) and selected by the Stop TB Partnership. TRC members have experience, skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Clinical TB
- Laboratory services
- Drug Management
- Human Resource Management
- International Development
- International Financing for anti-TB Drugs
- MDR/XDR TB
- Paediatric TB
- Procurement and Logistics
- TB Epidemiology
- TB Monitoring and Evaluation
- TB/HIV
TRC members are appointed for terms of two years on the basis of their personal experience and skill and not their organizational affiliation.
