Muture BN, Keraka MN, Kimuu PK, Kabiru EW, Ombeka V, Oguya F. BMC Public Health, September 2011

This study aimed at measuring the time (tubercolosis) TB patients stayed in treatment before defaulting and the causes of default; this because default means patients remain infectious, can relapse, infect others and foster emergence of drug resistant TB. Patients defaulting form treatment were were used as cases, while controls were patients that completed treatment. Data was collected by both questionnaires and interviews and showed when default occurs during treatment and which are the main reasons why patients default.
