Improved cellular immune response elicited by a ubiquitin-fused ESAT-6 DNA vaccine against Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Wang Q, Kang L, Wang X. Microbiology and Immunology, September 2011
The study aimed at measuring immune responses in BALB/c mice that had been vaccinated with an ubiquitin-fused ESAT-6 DNA vaccine. Mice were injected with the vaccine, with a plasmid DNA encoding ESAT-6 protein and a blank vector as controls. Results showed that mice injected with the vaccine could induce a Th1-polarized response, IFN-? production was also increased and proliferative T-cell responses were also enhanced. This demonstrates that the vaccine improved antigen specific immune responses that are helpful for protection against infection.
