Workshop Reports
The Research Movement called for a high-level meeting with major donor agencies for TB research, key scientists, representatives from NGOs, patients and communities and delegates from BRICS countries. The overall goal of the meeting was to raise awareness on the urgent need to increase our knowledge on TB, and on the need to use this knowledge to create new and improved tools for TB control. The specific objectives were (1) to introduce and present an international Roadmap for TB Research that is describing key issues and priorities to be addressed in TB research over the next 10 to 15 years; (2) to come to a common agreement on key issues that are to be addressed to reach TB elimination; and (3) to create common support to the vision of the TB Research Roadmap for a coordinated and synergistic efforts to improve TB research. Speakers were invited to address key issues on the above matters, and round tables were organized to allow exchange of ideas. Participants convened that the StopTB Partnership should publish the International TB Research Roadmap and use this document to identify key strategic research activities and develop an action plan for better coordination and harmonization of global TB research.
