Memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and support for global TB control signed between the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Stop TB Partnership

19 May 2005
Geneva -- Today a memorandum of understanding (MOU), was signed between the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Stop TB Partnership to increase cooperation, improve resource allocation, and bring support to TB-affected communities of great need. Marking a major step in the fight against TB, the MOU, an agreement for two years, will engage partners through the Stop TB Partnership to provide technical assistance from Stop TB Partners for proposal preparation, implementation, and monitoring at country level following international standards. These include DOTS expansion, TB/HIV co-infection, and multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. Other areas of mutual cooperation include the effective procurement of high-quality, low-cost TB drugs to countries using established proven Stop TB Partnership mechanisms such as the Global Drug Facility and the Green Light Committee, provision of technical input on procurement, and joint efforts on resource mobilisation.
