Aeras and NIH Co-Host Scientific Symposium on novel areas of TB vaccine research
7 March 2011 - Bethesda, US - Aeras and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases co-hosted a one-day scientific symposium on novel areas of TB vaccine research at the National Institutes of Health.
More than 90 researchers from around the world participated in the first-of-its-kind event. The morning session, chaired by Dr. Stefan Kaufmann of the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, featured presentations on surface structure and antibody-based approaches to TB vaccine development.
The afternoon session, chaired by Dr. Willem Hanekom of the University of Cape Town, focused on the development of a human challenge model to test the immunological effects and protective efficacy of TB vaccine candidates.
