Workshop targets increased supply of TB drugs from South East Asian suppliers

8 March 2011 - Jakarta - Manufacturers from South East Asia gathered in Jakarta for a workshop which focused on the need for quality-assured medicines, WHO manufacturing principles and the WHO prequalification programme (WHO PQ).

The workshop was part of efforts to increase the supply of quality-assured second line TB medicines. Prior to the workshop, participants said that they had limited understanding of the WHO PQ and how to access technical assistance. However, by the time the workshop finished, sixteen manufactures had expressed interest in the WHO PQ and in receiving technical assistance from the Promoting the Quality of Medicine program (PQM), a USAID funded program to promote medicines quality in developing countries.

The meeting was jointly organized by the WHO PQ, the Global Drug Facility and PQM.
