Report focuses on the human face of TB
16 September 2011 - London, UK - ACTION and the TB Europe Coalition have published a report which portrays the human face of tuberculosis (TB). Tuberculosis - Voices in the fight against the European Epidemic looks behind the statistics to focus on the every-day challenges faced by TB patients and those who care for them in Europe.
In the report, patients, doctors, advocates and healthcare workers from seven European countries - Georgia, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, UK and Ukraine - tell of their experiences.
The report features a foreword from Lucica Ditiu, the Executive Secretary of the Stop TB Partnership. "I come from Romania, and working as a physician I have seen firsthand how the stigma and lack of knowledge about TB makes people fearful of seeking the care they need and deserve," she wrote. "I believe that the stories of hope in this report will inspire people everywhere to see that with the right strategies and full involvement of communities, we can provide every person who needs it with high quality TB care."
