Médecins Sans Frontières report says childhood TB is neglected
20 October 2011 - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has published a report which argues that the children with tuberculosis (TB) are largely neglected.
There have been no recent advances in the tools to diagnose and treat children with TB and they are currently far from adequate for the needs of children, MSF says.
The report says that research and development is urgently needed for appropriate child-friendly preparations of drugs and for tests that improve and simplify TB diagnosis in children.
Until improved tools become available, MSF says that much can be done with existing diagnostics and drugs to improve the management of TB in children.
