Stop TB partners roll out Project Axshya in India
30 October 2011 - Hyderabad, India - TB Alert India has drawn up an agreement with the state of Andhra Pradesh to implement Project Axshya in seven districts of the state. The agreement sets out roles and responsibilities for the NGOs implementing the project as well as local government coordinators.
Project Axshya is part of a five-year project financed by the Global Fund which is designed to engage all sectors of society in improving TB care across India.
Population Services International (PSI), which is implementing Project Axshya in six Indian states, has conducted a series of training sessions to enhance health workers' TB diagnosis and treatment skills
Project Axshya aims to reach 374 districts across 23 states in India by 2015. It is aimed at people who have had the greatest difficulty in accessing TB care - women, children, tribal populations, communities living in geographically difficult areas and vulnerable groups, such as people co-infected with TB and HIV.
