Union World Conference in Lille attracts delegates from 129 countries
30 October 2011 - Lille, France - The 42nd Union World Conference on Lung Health attracted 2,400 lung health professionals, health policy-makers, activists and community representatives from 129 countries worldwide.
This year's scientific programme included more than 160 post-graduate courses, workshops, symposia, plenaries, meet-the-expert sessions and poster-related sessions exploring the theme "Partnerships for scaling-up and care".
The special guest lecture was given by Mr Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, CEO of Vestergaard Frandsen, who spoke on "How the private sector can contribute to the scale-up of health services". Dr Lucica Ditiu, Executive Secretary of the Stop TB Partnership gave a plenary talk on "Hard talk: why we need to change the way we think and speak about TB". Dr Samira Asma, Chief of Global Tobacco Control for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, spoke on "How in the world we measure and scale up tobacco and NCD prevention" and Prof Andrew Nunn of the UK Medical Research Council, gave the Sir John Crofton Lecture on "The use of clinical trials to find new and shorter treatment regimens".
