Target TB to bring screening to maternal and child health services in Malawi


20 February 2012 - Balaka, Malawi - Target Tuberculosis, a UK-based nongovernmental organization, has been awarded a grant from Comic Relief to implement a project integrating tuberculosis (TB) screening into maternal and child health services in Malawi.

Target TB have been working with the Sue Ryder Foundation in Malawi (SRFIM) and district health officials to design the three year project entitled Kutukula Umoyo: Improving the health status of pregnant women and children in Balaka District, due to start in March 2012.

SRFIM will partner with the district health team to train health workers at five government and two Christian Health Association Malawi (CHAM) health facilities in Balaka District to screen women and children for TB during routine antenatal and under five clinics, as well as carry out TB education at clinics and in the community.
