Soccer and screening come together at Nairobi soccer tournament

18 August 2012 - Nairobi - Vijana Amani Pamoja (VAP) continued its Kick N Test tuberculosis (TB) screening campaign with a fourth annual soccer tournament in Jericho township.

The tournament, organized under the theme of All for one, one for all, featured football games, voluntary counselling and TB testing and screening. It drew a total of 16 teams from across the Eastlands area of Nairobi.

Jericho township, which has high rates of TB and HIV infection, is well known for producing top national and international football players. VAP's annual Kick N Test football tournament is designed to act as a catalyst for social change and encourages the community to address its health challenges.

At this year’s tournament, teams gained points not only for winning or drawing matches, but also for taking part in TB and HIV screening and testing. A total of 160 youth players received an HIV test and were screened for TB.
