Implementers gather to assess effectiveness of new TB diagnostics


13 November 2012 - Kuala Lumpur - The Brazilian Ministry of Health, the South African Ministry of Health, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development organized a meeting during the World Conference on Lung Health to discuss the Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) and other tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics.

The meeting provided a forum to share data, conclusions and research models from studies currently being carried out to assess the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and ease of implementation of the Xpert diagnostic. Presenters from Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia and India showed preliminary results from Xpert implementation in their countries.
