The Union elects new board members
16 November 2012 - Kuala Lumpur - The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (the Union) has elected four new members to serve on its board of directors.
Professor Simon Schaaf (South Africa), Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Stellenbosch University, will serve as the representative of the Lung Health Scientific Section.
Professor Peter Davies (UK), Honorary Professor to Liverpool University and secretary of TB Alert, will serve as representative of the Europe Region.
Dr Pamela Orr (Canada), Professor in the Departments of Medicine (Section of Infectious Diseases), Medical Microbiology and Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, will serve as representative of the North America Region.
Dr Akira Shimouchi (Japan), Vice-Director of the Research Institute of Tuberculosis/Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association, was elected as an Individual Member.
In addition, Dr Amir Khan (Pakistan) was elected to serve on the Union's Bureau as Secretary General, replacing Dr Camilo Roa Jr (Philippines) who had completed his term in this office.
