Two new EICs for the IJTLD

24 June 2015 - After a busy 5 years on the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IJTLD), Drs Wing-Wai Yew and Martien Borgdorff will be ending their mandates as the Editors in Chief for tuberculosis on 30 June and 31 December 2015, respectively. Wing-Wai and Martien have had a significant impact on the IJTLD, introducing debates on new tools in tuberculosis diagnosis and management, massively reducing the backlog, introducing presubmission requests for Perspectives and Review articles, shortening turnaround times and tightening the time to publication, all of which has improved the quality of the IJTLD.

The recent search for replacements was fruitful, with a very strong field of applications. The two new EICs, who will be beginning their mandates, in July and January, are Professor Peter Davies (UK) and Professor Kathryn DeRiemer (USA).

Former consultant chest physician and honorary professor at the University of Liverpool, Peter Davies has been on the Editorial Board of the IJTLD since 2003. Founder and trustee of the UK charity TB Alert, launched in 1999, Peter has a strong interest in the clinical and society aspects of tuberculosis - he also well known for his text book Clinical Tuberculosis, now in its 5th edition.

Kathryn DeRiemer, PhD, MS, MPH, is Associate Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Public Health Sciences, at the University of California, Davis. Her research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, airborne transmission of pathogens, antibiotic resistance and the diversity of pathogen strain genotypes and phenotypes.
