Stop TB Partnership

Adopting IT in TB Control in India

25 November 2015 Chennai, India - STOP TB Partnerships based in southern India, Blossom Trust and TB Alert India (TBAI), conducted a training session on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for its staff.

TBAI and Blossom partnered in implementation of project Campaign for Education, Prevention and Treatment of TB (CEPT) during its second phase (2013-2017) this year, together taking on the initiative to bring a more sustainable TB management in Tamil Nadu.

CEPT-II aims to improve community knowledge of TB, to conduce correct health seeking behaviour, and to improve accessibility and adherence to treatment.

The two partnerships recognised the potential of IT to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care, and decided to leverage SPSS in its fight against TB. The software will integrate, monitor and evaluate TB vulnerable population data and patients’ histories, enabling operational research.

In consideration of precedents where developing country health care providers found IT cumbersome due to the low technology literacy level, TBAI and Blossom transferred the necessary technical knowledge during the three-day programme.
